Queen Bees Finish LaCrosse Tournament 1-1

In the first day of the LaCrosse Tournament the No. 16 St.
Ambrose Queen Bees (4-7) dropped a heart breaker in double overtime to
Simpson College Storm (2-0) by the final of 96-92.
The Queen Bees fought back in the second half to force
overtime, and almost had the game won in the first overtime. But a
Sara Sonderman three pointer with 00:03 left in overtime, tied the game up
yet again to force the second overtime.
The Queen Bees only managed 36.6% shooting (compared to
Simpson's 50.7% shooting) on the night with Angie Schinstock leading the way
with 21
points and 15 boards. Schinstock was 8 for 18 from the field while
dishing out four assists, despite fouling out of the game.
Three other players scored in double figures for the Queen
Bees. Kate Tuttle added 18 points. Tuttle, who also fouled out,
had team highs in steals (5) and assists (4) while grabbing four
rebounds. Kellie Metz was not too far behind with 16 points and four
rebounds.
Brooke Vallejo came away with ten points, four rebounds and
three assists. Amy Van Dyke grabbed seven boards while contributing
nine points.
Leading Simpson were a host of players, five to be exact,
scored in double figures. Leading the Storm were Ashley Bogaards and
Christy Pierick, who both added 18 points a piece. Bogaards also came
away with six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Annika Gustafson dropped in 14 points and had a game high
three blocks while grabbing five boards. Sonderman added 13 points
and six boards. She also had three steals and three assists.
Tiffany Whitesell added 11 points.
In the second day, the Queen Bees responded in a 62-49
victory over Upper Iowa University (2-3). It was the combination of
two players that kept the Peacocks playing catchup.
Angie Schinstock added a
game high 23 points and seven boards, while contributing three assists and
four steals. Kellie Metz was the only other Queen Bees player to score
in double figures, adding 17 points and a game high nine rebounds. She
also had four blocks.
The Queen Bees kept the Peacocks to 31.3% shooting on the
night, while limiting only one player to double figures in points.
Lois Riordan went 4-for-11 in her 15 point, six rebound performance.
Alisa Malaki had a game high nine rebounds whle adding seven points.
The Queen Bees will move onto next weeks match-up versus
cross town rival Augustana. That game will be held at Augustana's
Carver Center at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday night.
