Sizzling Queen Bees Move on to Second Round
The St. Ambrose Queen Bees (20-13) shot lights out Thursday night, as they defeated the Mt. St. Clare Mounties (7-24) 96-64. The Queen Bees shot 56% overall and 50% from 3-point land.
The Queen Bees opened the game on a 14-0 run, which included two Kellie Metz 3-pointers, before giving up a basket with 14:37 left in the first half. Mt. St. Clare could not get any offense started, nor could they stop the Queen Bees attack. The Queen Bees went into the half leading 47-17, as they shot 57% from the field and 6 of 9 from 3-point land.
Fouls were the story of the second half, as 34 total fouls were called in the half. The Queen Bees kept the lead between 26 and 38 points for the remainder of the game to lead to a 32 point win.
Kellie Metz hit 5 three point field goals, as she led all scorers with 22 points. Angie Schinstock also had a big game, as she totaled 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
The Queen Bees bench posted 32 points, as Amy Van Dyke scored 12 and Trisha Carlisle added 10.
Linissa Bowman led all Mounties with 16 points and Alicia Mahmens chipped in with 14.
Next up for the Queen Bees, will be the Viterbo V-Hawks on Saturday at 2:00. The game will be played at Lee Lohman Arena. St. Ambrose leads the season series 2-0 and will look for the sweep on Saturday to advance to the finals.
