Tuttle, Queen Bees Take Over Early and Move on to
Finals
Kate Tuttle played her final game at Lee
Lohman Arena on Saturday and went out with a boom. The senior from West
Branch, IA, scored 17 first half points and finished with a game high 23,
as the St. Ambrose Queen Bees (21-13) defeated the Viterbo V-Hawks (12-20)
by the score of 79-55, to earn the right to play for the MCC title against
Grand View on Monday night.
Freshman, Ali Rorah lit a fire under the
Queen Bees as she converted a 3-point play to get the Queen Bees out to an
8-3 lead. From there, Kate Tuttle would score 12 of the Queen Bees first
21 points, as the lead grew to 21-3 with 12:30 remaining in he first half.
The Queen Bees' bench, consisting of Ali
Rorah, Kaitlin Newquist, Kerri Alvine and Trisha Carlisle, came out with a
huge first half, by scoring a total of 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4
assists.
St. Ambrose went into the half with a
51-26 lead, by shooting 61%, including 71% from 3-point land.
"That was the best half we have
played in three years," proclaimed Coach Ted Eskildsen.
The V-Hawks came out of the locker room
with some fire, as they cut the lead to 17 points on three different
occasions, but the lead would grow to 21. The V-Hawks would make another
run to cut the lead down to 15, but the Queen Bees came back with six
straight points, capped off by a Kellie Metz jumper. The V-Hawks never
would get any closer.
Four Queen Bees finished in double
figures, led by Tuttle with 23. Angie Schinstock posted her 17th
double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Michelle Kurth
had 11 points, Kellie Metz added 10 and Kaitlin Newquist dished out 7
assists.
Viterbo had three players in double
figures, with Anne Wilson leading the way with 15, Shelly Brueggen added
14 and Kirstin Monroe dropped in 12.
Next up for the Queen Bees will be the
Grand View Vikings in a clash for the MCC title and the right to go to the
National Tournament. The game will be Monday at 7:30 in Des Moines, IA.
