by: Ryan Holtmann

December 9, 2002     3:56 p.m.

It was de ja vous for the No. 19 St. Ambrose Queen Bees (5-8) as the dropped the first game of the Trinity International Tournament on Friday.  The St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Saints (5-8) knocked off the Queen Bees by the final score of 80-67.

The Queen Bees were led by the tag team duo of Kellie Metz and Angie Schinstock.  Metz finished with a game high 23 points.  Metz also had six rebounds and an assist.  Schinstock came away with 16 points and seven boards, while snatching up a team high three steals.

The Queen Bees had some trouble finding the bottom of the net as they shot a dismal 32.8% (21-64) from the field and 22.2% (2-9) from beyond the arc.  They were however almost perfect from the line as they went 23-26 (88.5%) from the charity stripe.

Maybe the Queen Bees can teach the Fighting Bees a thing or two about free throws.  (The Fighting Bees men's basketball team has struggled from the free throw line as of late).

The Saints did manage to find the cotton hanging from the orange rim, as they shot 54.2% from the field on 32-59 shooting. Leading the Saints was Latoya Campbell with 22 points, five assists and five steals.

Not too far behind was Laney Pellegrini, who had 19 points, six rebounds and three steals.  Also in double figures were Cassie Hill and Kristin Douglas.  Hill had 13 points and four assists while Douglas came away with ten points and five boards.

On the second day of the tournament, the Queen Bees (6-8) rebounded and responded with a 76-62 victory over the Huntington Foresters (5-5).

The Queen Bees out rebounded the Foresters by a 48-30 margin with Ali Rorah coming away with 12 of those.  Rorah finished with seven points.

The tag team duo of Angie Schinstock and Kellie Metz struck again.  Schinstock came away with a team high 24 points and also contributed three assists.  The other half of the tag team duo wasn't too far behindas Metz scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Queen Bees were solid again from the free throw line, going 29-35 on the night.  Schinstock accounted for 16 of those, making 14.

Michelle Kurth added 13 points and three rebounds and Kate Tuttle added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Two players reached double figures for the Foresters.  Sarah Gordon scored a game high 30 points while grabbing four rebounds.  Jessah Martin scored 12 points, while contributing five rebounds and seven assists.

The Queen Bees will now take two weeks off before traveling to the "Sunshine State" (Florida) for the Warner Southern Tournament.  The Queen Bees will face off against Minot St. (N.D.) on Friday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m.

The consolation game will be played at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday followed by the championship game held at 4:00 p.m.  Warner Southern will play Virginia Intermont at 4:00 p.m. in the nightcap of the first night.
