Queen Bees Complete Sweep
Coming off a loss to William Penn on their home court
before traveling up to La Crosse, Wis. to face off against a stingy
Viterbo V-Hawk team, the St. Ambrose Queen Bees were in for a tough test.
A tough test they did receive, but one that they did overcome.
The Queen Bees (17-12, 7-2) not only completed a
sweep of the V-Hawks for the season, but completed a St. Ambrose
men’s/women’s doubleheader sweep for the night and did so with a 72-58
victory. The loss dropped the
struggling V-Hawks to 8-19 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
The V-Hawks came out of the gates ready to go, jumping
out to a 19-6 lead early on in the first half, keeping the Queen Bees at
bay. The Queen Bees made a
run, but could only come within four at the half, trailing 32-28.
That V-Hawk lead would not last long though, as it
were the Queen Bees who came out fired up in the second half, erasing the
V-Hawk lead and coming away with the 14-point victory.
“Kate Tuttle served as a model for the team for the
way that she played in the second half for us,” head coach Ted Eskildsen
said of the teams comeback.
Leading the Queen Bees were the “Big 3,”
consisting of Kate Tuttle, Kellie Metz and Angie Schinstock.
Tuttle continued her 20-point ways as she scored 20 for the third
straight game. All 20 of
these points came in the second half.
She also snagged four steals.
Schinstock chimed in 16 points, six boards and four
steals for a complete night. Metz
finished with 14 points and five rebounds.
Trisha Carlisle went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field
while adding a career high 15 points, all in nine minutes of play.
“Trisha always finds a way to be in the right place
at the right time,” Eskildsen said.
The V-Hawks were led by an 18-point performance by
Lindsey Klatt. Shelly
Brueggen and Tiare Hurst both added 12 points apiece.
Kirstin Monroe added ten points and four assists.
The Queen Bees will continue their two game road trip Saturday when they travel to face off against MCC leading Grand View.
They will return home one week from this Saturday after a six day
layoff, to face off against Iowa Wesleyan, that game will tip-off at 3:00
p.m.
Return to Women's
Basketball.
