Queen Bees advance to championship game

DAVENPORT, IOWA- The St. Ambrose Queen Bees advanced to the championship game of the Midwest Classic Tournament with a 75-68 victory over the Grand View Vikings.

St. Ambrose led for much of the first as they got up by as many as six on two different occasions. Grand View fought back late in the half to tie the game for the sixth time and then scored four straight points to grab a four point lead with :38 left. St. Ambrose came right back with a basket by Jennifer Goetz to cut the lead to two and then Kellie Metz hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to grab a 37-36 halftime lead.

St. Ambrose would hold the lead for all 20 minutes of play in the second half as they expanded the lead to 10 points with 8:27 left. Grand View scored the next basket to cut the lead to eight, but Maggie Hughes shut the door on any Viking run with consecutive 3-pointers to give the Bees a 14-point lead.

Kellie Metz scored a game high 21 points and Goetz added 18.
