Three Seniors have a grand finale; Bees advance to NAIA Tournament

DAVENPORT, IOWA- Seniors Brooke Vallejo, Angie Schinstock and Kellie Metz all scored in double figures in their last career home game to lead the Queen Bees to a 70-57 win over William Penn. The win propels the Bees into the National Tournament in Sioux City, IA. Vallejo had a career night with 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting.

For the last three seasons Angie Schinstock and Kellie Metz got most of the publicity for the Queen Bees. Schinstock and Metz rank third and fifth in SAU's all-time leading scorers and have been named to the All-Conference team on more than one occasion. But in the biggest game of the three seniors careers, Brooke Vallejo was the star, hitting big shot after big shot.

Vallejo average 3 ppg this season coming into her final career home game, but she scored six times her average in the biggest game of her career.

St. Ambrose came out blazing with an early 14-3 lead, but the lead wouldn't hold as William Penn cut it to 22-21. The Bees did close the half on a strong note, as Jena Zientak scored the Bees final four points and gave them a 32-27 halftime lead.

Penn scored the first eight second half points to grab the momentum and a three point lead, but Vallejo drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game at 35. Four minutes later, Vallejo connected on another three to extend the Bee lead to four with 13:35 left. Penn would make another big run over the next 7:30 to take a 53-49 lead, but Vallejo would once again have an answer as she nailed consecutive 3-pointers to give the Bees a two point lead and all of the game's momentum. Following Vallejo's two huge shots, the Queen Bees outscored Penn 15-4 to close out the game.

Vallejo finished off her magical night with a 3-point play to give the Bees a 70-54 win and a trip to the National Tournament.
