Queen Bees lose a heartbreaker DAVENPORT, IOWA- The St. Ambrose Queen Bees (21-8, 10-1) lost their first conference game of the season to Waldorf (16-10, 8-3) in heartbreaking fashion by the score of 71-70. The Queen Bees seemed to be in control with a 16 point lead with 7:30 to go, but they couldn't hold on.
St. Ambrose trailed by nine early on, but then controlled the next 25 minutes of the game. The Queen Bees went on a 15-2 spurt in a 4:30 span to grab a four point lead. They went into the half with a 36-31 advantage.
Leading 42-38 with 16:05 left, the Queen Bees turned up the intensity by scoring 15 of the next 17 points to take a 57-40 lead. St. Ambrose maintained a 16 point lead until the 7:30 mark before the wheels fell off. Waldorf went on a 13-4 run over the next 5:30 to trim the lead to seven with 1:59 left.
Following a missed shot, Waldorf's Rachel Mesner hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to four with 1:24 left. The Warriors then fouled Cathy Mangan, who missed the front end of a 1-and-1. This time Krista Van Hauen connected on a 3 to cut the lead to one with 1:07 left. Van Hauen gave Waldorf the lead with a basket with :19 left. Angie Schinstock was fouled on the Bees next possession and knocked down two free throws with :13 left to give the Bees a 70-69 lead. Van Hauen would retaliate with two free throws of her own with on 5.4 left to end the Queen Bees attempt at a perfect conference record.
Schinstock led the Queen Bees with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Kellie Metz added 15.
