Second Half Rally Leads to Win

Box Score  2/12/05

FOREST CITY, Ia- Things looked bleak for the Queen Bees Saturday, falling behind by 16 points at league leading Waldorf with just over twelve minutes remaining.  That's when St. Ambrose fought back, scoring 15 unanswered points in the next four minutes to pull within one with eight minutes left in the game.

SAU finally took their first lead of the second half with 3:27 left, and they would never give that lead up, winning a tough road game 80-72.

Freshman Jill Sweeney, making her first start in a while, was a big sparkplug for the Queen Bees.  Sweeney made three 3 pointers, as she scored a career high 20 points.  Sweeney also had six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Jennifer Goetz chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Ali Rorah  also scored in double figures, with eleven, as well as grabbing nine boards.  Senior Kerri Alvine made some clutch shots down the stretch, finishing with nine points, on three of five shooting from three point range.

Waldorf got a nice performance from Kelly Houser, who had 17 points and 16 rebounds.  Lindsey Pleuss added 14 points and six assists, while Lori Iezek and Rahael Mesner each finished with ten points.

SAU's next game will be Wednesday, when they'll play host to Iowa Wesleyan on what will be Senior Night.  Tip off is set for 5:30, and will be followed by the men's game.
