Queen Bees Drop Second Straight In OT 12/1/04
The St. Ambrose women's basketball team had just 48 hours to get over a heartbreaking loss in overtime, only to get their heart broken again, losing at Augustana (1-4) 86-82 in OT on Tuesday night. Both teams were neck and neck with each other for much of the contest, with the largest lead coming with 1:52 left in the first half when St. Ambrose (6-5) led by eight.
Jennifer Goetz once again led the charge for the Queen Bees, as she played all 45 minutes, recording a double double with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Cathy Mangan also had a solid game, scoring twelve, while pulling down eleven assists and dishing out a team high four assists. Junior Ali Rorah scored twelve in the losing effort. SAU was hurt by the absence of Senior Michelle Kurth, who did not play due to a sprained ankle that she suffered Sunday against McKendree.
Augustana was led by Kristen Pence, who finished with a team high 22 points and ten rebounds. Kim Rymer also had a double double, finishing with 16 points and ten boards, and also made two clutch free throws late in OT to put Augie up by three. Erin Daniels and Nancy Marcum also scored in double figures with 16 and 13 points respectively.
SAU will try to get back on the winning track Thursday night, when they'll travel to Bourbonnais, IL to play Olivet Nazarene. That game will begin at 7:00.
