St. Ambrose Drops First Game of the Year

DAVENPORT, IA--It was a tale of two halves Saturday afternoon as the St. Ambrose women's basketball team lost their first game of the season 72-61 in Omaha, Nebraska against The College of St. Mary.  St. Mary's (2-3) came out of the gates firing, outscoring the Queen Bees 49-23 in the first half.  St. Ambrose was able to outscore St. Mary's by 15 points after halftime, but it was too little too late as SAU dropped their record to 3-1 on the year.

Jennifer Goetz led the way for the Queen Bees, scoring 18 points while adding 12 rebounds for her third double double in four games.  Senior Michelle Kurth was the only other Bee in double figures, scoring 13.  Kurth was also active on the boards, grabbing nine rebounds.  Freshman Jill Sweeney had the best game of her young career so far, scoring nine points.

St. Mary's was led by four players scoring in double figures.  Sandy Kirchner had 20 and ten rebounds.  Jenna Kreikemeier finished with twelve.  Ashley Doherty and Mikki Tillman also scored in double figures with eleven and ten respectively.  St. Mary's out rebounded the Bees 72-61.

St. Ambrose will try to get back on the winning track as they'll travel to Chicago on Monday to play Robert Morris.
