Queen Bees Win Opener In a Blowout DAVENPORT, IA--The St. Ambrose women's basketball team started the 2004-05 season on a high note, winning in convincing fashion Monday night at Graceland. The Queen Bees got off to a quick start to the game as they exploded out to a 42-26 halftime lead. Jennifer Goetz led St. Ambrose with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Jody Wulff made her return to the Queen Bee program in nice fashion as she scored eleven points while also recording five steals. Senior Michelle Kurth also scored in double figures for St. Ambrose, finishing with 12 points. She also added seven boards. Cathy Mangan did a good job of distributing the ball all night, finishing with seven assists. St. Ambrose shot lights out for most of the game, shooting 45% from the floor, including 42% from behind the three point line. The pressure was on Graceland all night with St. Ambrose defenders swarming around the ball. The Queen Bees finished with 19 steals. Graceland shot just 26% from the field. They were led by Amy Giehtbrock, who finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Next up for the Queen Bees will be their home opener Friday, as they'll host the Coach Jim Fox Invite. The teams in the tournament include SAU, Trinity International, Robert Morris, and Huntington. Friday's games are slated to begin at 6:00 and 8:00, while Saturday's contests will start at 1:00 and 3:00.
