2/25/06 - Waldorf (13-18, 5-9) at SAU (20-10, 9-5) - MCC Semifinal game

Series History: St. Ambrose leads the all-time series 4-2. The Queen Bees have won the last two meetings, both coming earlier this season.

Last meeting: The Queen Bees won the last meeting between these two teams, 75-49 in Davenport, just two weeks ago. SAU shot 48% in the game, while connecting on 43% (6-14) of their shots from downtown. Jennifer Goetz led SAU with 14 points and four rebounds. Ashlie Maher scored 11 off the bench, as she was two for two from 3-point range. Jill Sweeney added 10 points for the Queen Bees. Waldorf was led by Maria Stoner’s 15 points and five rebounds. Kelly Houser contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, and seven steals in the losing effort.

SAU’s Last Time Out: SAU quickly erased memories of their two game losing streak, as they defeated Ashford, 85-56 in an MCC Quarterfinal game. 14 of SAU’s 15 players broke into the scoring column, including Jennifer Goetz with a team-high 11 points, and Jill Sweeney with 10. Ali Rorah finished with eight points, on 3-of-3 shooting, to go along with her eight rebounds.

Looking Ahead: With a win today, SAU would advance to the MCC Championship game for the fourth time in the last five years. They would play the winner of the Iowa Wesleyan/Mount Mercy game. If the Tigers win, the game would be played in Mt. Pleasant. If not, the game will be held in Davenport.

Two of a Kind: There are currently three players in the MCC that rank in the top five in both points and rebounds. Two of those players are in the building today. Jennifer Goetz ranks 3rd in both categories (17.2 ppg, 8.7 rpg), while Waldorf’s Kelly Houser ranks 4th (14.2 ppg) and 2nd (9.0 rpg).

The Benchmark: After Thursday’s win over Ashford, SAU head coach Amy Eagan reached the 20 win plateau for the season in this, her first year as a head coach. Eagan keeps a tradition alive by becoming the third consecutive coach at St. Ambrose to win 20 games in their initial season.

Stingy ‘D’: The Queen Bee’s defense has been swarming opponents all season. SAU has allowed less than 60 points in 19 games this year, going 17-2 in those games. SAU currently ranks first in the MCC, allowing a shade under 57 points per game.

Road Weary: Waldorf has faced some adversity this season when they’ve had to travel outside Forest City. The Lady Warriors are just 4-10 on the road this year. Before Thursday’s playoff win at Grand View, Waldorf had lost five consecutive games on the road.

She’s Got Game: Waldorf’s Kelly Houser has been a woman on a mission as of late. In her last four games, Houser is averaging a double-double, scoring 14.3 ppg, while pulling down 13 rpg. She’s recorded double-doubles in each of her last two games.
