12/19/05 SAU (9-2) vs. #17 Azusa Pacific (5-3)

Series History: This game marks the first meeting between these two teams

SAU’s Last Time Out: St. Ambrose had their nine game win streak snapped in a 62-50 loss to The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, California. The Queen Bees led by two at halftime, but their 31% second half shooting doomed them. SAU turned the ball over 25 times, helping the Master’s hold on to the win. Jennifer Goetz led SAU with 14 points and eleven rebounds. Jody Wulff and Ashlie Maher scored 12 and 10 points respectively. The Master’s was led by Courtney Jackson, who scored a game-high 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting.

Looking Ahead: SAU will return home from California just in time for Christmas. The Queen Bees’ next games will be in Chicago at the Saint Xavier Holiday Tournament from December 27-29. SAU will play Saint Xavier in the first day of the tournament. These three games will be the final tuneup before conference season begins.

Homesick: St. Ambrose is off to a great start to the season, but things have gone better when the Queen Bees have played in the friendly confines of Lee Lohman Arena. SAU is 7-0 at home this season, but are just 1-2 when they’ve played on the road. They are 1-0 in games at a neutral site.

Pass To Win: St. Ambrose has spread the ball around well this season, especially in their vicories. SAU’s opponents have had more assists than them in two of their eleven games this season. Those two games are the only two SAU has lost all year.

Windex Women: St. Ambrose has been working hard under the boards all season long. The Queen Bees have out rebounded their opponents by an average of 5.4 rebounds per game. Leading the way is Jennifer Goetz with 8.5 rpg and Jena Zientek with 6.7 rpg.

Ferdaszewski Heats Up: Azusa guard Alyssa Ferdaszewski is only averaging 8.8 points per game, but judging by her last few games, you’d think she was the team’s leading scorerer. Ferdaszewski is averaging 20.3 points in her last three contests. She has scored 61 of her 70 points this season in her last three games.

Closely Contested: Azusa Pacific is 5-3 so far this season, but they could very easily be undefeated. The Cougar’s three losses have been by a total of eight points, losing by one, two, and five.
