12/17/05 SAU (9-1) vs. #7 The Master's (5-2)
Series History: This game marks the first meeting between these
two teams
SAU’s Last Time Out: St. Ambrose played some of the best basketball
they’ve played all season, defeating arch rival Augustana, 72-58. The
Queen Bees were in control throughout, leading by as much as 31 points in
the second half. Ali Rorah provided a spark off the bench, scoring a
career high 14 points, helping SAU to their ninth consecutive victory.
Jennifer Goetz scored a game-high 21, while pulling down eight rebounds.
SAU shot 64% in the first half, which helped them run away with the
victory.
Looking Ahead: The Queen Bees won’t have much time to relax, as
they’ll remain in California for a couple days, playing eighteenth ranked
Azusa Pacific on Monday. That will be the first meeting between the Queen
Bees and the Cougars.
Goetz Named POW: For the second time already this season, Jennifer
Goetz has been named Midwest Classic Conference Player of the Week. Goetz
earned the honor for last week’s play that helped SAU win both games on
the week. Goetz averaged 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and one
block. Goetz shot 62% from the floor, while shooting 57% from three-point
range. Goetz also shot 91% from the free throw line, as SAU defeated
Culver-Stockton and Augustana.
Ali Roar-ah: Senior Ali Rorah had one of the better games of her
SAU career in the Queen Bees last game, against Augustana. The Delmar,
Iowa native connected on seven of her ten shots for a career-high 14
points. Rorah also collected seven rebounds, as she showed some tenacity
in the post that has been lacking at times in her three-plus years at SAU.
Shut Down ‘D’: The Queen Bees have scored over 70 points in three
of their last four games, but what may be overlooked is how well their
defense has played as of late. SAU is allowing an average of just 55.8
points per game over their last six contests.
Master’s Spread the Wealth: Good teams usually have a balanced
scoring attack and The Master’s College is no different. The Mustangs have
five players who are averaging doulble digits this season. Kinsley Mittel
leads the team with 17.9 ppg.
75 and Done: The Master’s College has done a good job of shutting
down their opponents this season, but when the other team gets hot, the
Mustangs struggle. The Master’s is 0-2 on the season when they allow 75 or
more points. Those are their only two losses this season.
