2/1/06 - SAU (16-7, 6-2) at William Penn (10-13, 4-4)

Series History: William Penn leads the all-time series 11-12. SAU has won five of the last six meetings against the Lady Statesmen.

Last meeting: The Queen Bees defeated William Penn 75-45 earlier this season. SAU used their 47% shooting to take a 22 point halftime lead. William Penn was held to just 18% shooting in the first half and turned the ball over 29 times in the game. Jennifer Goetz led SAU with a game-high 17 points and nine rebounds. William Penn was led by Angela Bourrage and Brittney Crocker, whom each scored eight points. Jenny Ogden and April Love finished with seven points apiece.

SAU’s Last Time Out: SAU never trailed during Saturday’s 67-50 win at Viterbo. The Queen Bees shot 49% in the game, while holding the V-Hawks to just 33% shooting. Goetz scored 23 points on 10 of 15 shooting, and grabbed six rebounds. Cathy Mangan had 12 points, four assists, and four steals.

Looking Ahead: St. Ambrose returns home Saturday to play Ashford, in what is SAU’s first of three straight home games. The Queen Bees defeated Ashford 72-58 earlier this season.

A Tale of Two Halves: St. Ambrose has taken care of business in a big way in the first half, outscoring opponents 748-575. They haven’t fared as well in the second half, as they’ve been outscored 744-719 after halftime.

Points Hard To Come By: The Queen Bees have been stingy on ‘D’ all season. SAU is allowing an average of 57.3 points per game this year, which ranks 10th in NAIA Division II. That is the fewest points they’ve allowed on defense since the 1991-92 season, when they gave up an average of 56.4.

The Iron Unkind: William Penn has struggled shooting the ball all year. The Lady Statesmen are last in the Midwest Classic Conference, shooting 37% from the field. WPU is also last in the conference in FG percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot 44% from the field.

Breitbach Steps Up: SAU’s Casey Breitbach seemed to have trouble finding her shot early in the conference season. The good news for her and her team is that it looks like she’s found it. The freshman has made at least one three-pointer in four consecutive games.

Goetz Approaching Milestones: Junior Jennifer Goetz currently ranks ninth on SAU’s all-time scoring list with 1,395 points in less than three full years in the program. Goetz needs just 33 points to pass Lisa Lombardo (1985-89) for eighth place on SAU’s scoring list. Goetz also ranks sixth on the school’s all-time rebounding list. She needs 114 rebounds to move ahead of Brandy Scheckel (1992-96) for fifth on the all-time rebounding list.
