Series History: St.
Ambrose has dominated the all-time series, leading 27-4. Augustana has had
SAU’s number as of late, winning the last two matchups between the
schools.
Last meeting: Augustana won last year’s
game, 86-82 in overtime. SAU overcame a seven point second half deficit to
send it into the extra period. The Vikings outscored SAU 12-8 in the extra
frame. Jennifer Goetz led all scorers with 24 points, while adding 19
rebounds. Cathy Mangan and Ali Rorah each finished with 12 points.
Augustana was led by Kristen Pence’s 22 points and ten rebounds. Kim Rymer
also recorded a double-double of 16 points and ten boards.
SAU’s Last Time Out: St. Ambrose used a
19-2 run in the final 7:30 of the first half to defeat Culver-Stockton,
71-57. SAU shot 53% from the floor, for the game, while also making all
eight of their free throw attempts. Jennifer Goetz scored 23 points for
the Queen Bees, who won their eighth consecutive game. Goetz also added
six assists. Cathy Mangan scored eleven, on five of six shooting. SAU got
22 points from their bench players in the victrory.
Looking Ahead: SAU’s
next two games will be in sunny California. The Queen Bees are taking a
four day trip out west, where they’ll play the third ranked team in
Division I, The Master’s College on December 17th. They’ll then play 18th
ranked Azusa Pacific two days later.
Positive Margin: The Queen Bees are the only team in the Midwest
Classic Conference with a positive scoring margin. SAU has outscored their
opponents by an average of 8.1 points per game. The next best team is
Viterbo, who has a -2.9 scoring margin.
Sharing the Wealth: St. Ambrose currently has three players ranked
in the Midwest Classic Conference’s top ten in assists. Jill Sweeney ranks
fourth with 3.7 assists per game. Jody Wulff ranks ninth with 2.4 apg,
while Cathy Mangan is tenth, assisting on 2.3 baskets every game.
Mangan’s Milestone: Junior guard Cathy Mangan is approaching an
important scoring milestone. The Huntley, Illinois native needs just four
points tonight to reach 500 for her career.
Starting Out Right: SAU’s current 8-1 record marks the best start
to a Queen Bee season since the 2000-01 campaign. That year, SAU started
the season 14-1, winning 14 straight games, after losing their season
opener.
Marcum Named CCIW Player of the Week: Augustana’s Nancy Marcum was
recently named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin’s Player of
the Week for her performance in the Viking’s two games last week. She
helped Augustana win both contests, as she averaged 12 points, 8.5
rebounds, two assists, six blocks, and four steals. The senior from LeRoy,
Ill. also shot 62% from the floor for the week.
