2/11/06 - Waldorf (12-15, 5-6) at SAU (18-8, 8-3)
Series History: SAU leads the
all-time series 3-2. The Queen Bees have won two straight meetings.
Last meeting: SAU defeated Waldorf 55-40 in Forest City, Iowa
earlier this season. The Queen Bees led by four at halftime, despite
shooting 21% in the first half. Cathy Mangan led SAU with 15 points, six
rebounds, and three steals. Jennifer Goetz finished with 14 points and 11
boards. Waldorf was led by Maria Stoner’s 11 points, 16 rebounds, and four
assists. SAU shot 42% from the floor in the second half to put the game
away.
SAU’s Last Time Out: SAU defeated Grand View 64-43 on Wednesday.
The Queen Bees used a 16-4 run at the end of the first half to take a 15
point halftime lead. Mangan led SAU with 15 points and four assists, while
Jennifer Goetz had 13 points and eight boards. Ashlie Maher scored 11
points off the bench, while making all three of her 3-point attempts.
Looking Ahead: St. Ambrose travels to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on
Wednesday to face league leader Iowa Wesleyan. The Lady Tigers defeated
SAU earlier this season, 67-63 in overtime.
Windex Warriors: Waldorf has out rebounded their opponents in each
of their last five games in which they’ve gone 3-2. The Lady Warriors have
hit the boards hard all season, ranking first in the MCC in defensive
rebounds with 28 a game.
Early Bird Gets The Win: The Queen
Bees have fared well this season when they’ve jumped on opponents early.
SAU is 17-3 when they’ve held the lead at halftime. They are just 1-5 when
they’ve trailed at the break.
High Ratio: SAU and Waldorf have done a good job distributing the
ball this season, as well as protecting it. The Queen Bees rank first in
the MCC in assist-to-turnover ratio, with a 0.84 ratio. Waldorf is second
in that category with a ratio of 0.72.
Silent Assassins: St. Ambrose has received outstanding play
recently from a couple long range specialists. In the last four games,
sharpshooters Ashlie Maher and Casey Breitbach have come off the bench to
shoot a combined 50% (13-26) from 3-point range for the Queen Bees.
Her House: Waldorf’s Kelly Houser has been on a recent tear. In the
past six games, Houser is averaging 16.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 3.5
assists. She’s recorded three double-doubles in that span.
Goetz Approaches Milestones: After scoring 13 points Wednesday,
Jennifer Goetz moves into eighth place on SAU’s all-time scoring list.
Goetz is now 27 points shy of taking over seventh place on that list.
Goetz also ranks sixth on the school’s all-time rebounding list. She needs
88 rebounds to move ahead of Brandy Scheckel (1992-96) for fifth all-time.
