Box Score
Azusa, Calif. -- St. Ambrose is winding down their trip in the California
sun and fun. Monday night's game at 17th ranked Azusa Pacific wasn't as
much fun as they had hoped. The Queen Bees shot just 27% in the game,
which was a big reason Azusa walked away with a 74-51 victory.
SAU (9-3) played the Cougars (6-3) even for the first few minutes, getting
out to an early 8-4 lead, but the Queen Bees went absolutely ice cold
after that. SAU went nearly 14 minutes without a field goal, as they
missed 16 consecutive shots. That helped Azusa get out to a commanding
29-11 lead. The Cougars led by 16 points heading into the locker room,
thanks to their 43% shooting in the half.
The second half was more of the same for
Azusa Pacific, as they led by as many as 34 points. The Cougars dominated
in the post, scoring more than half their points in the paint. Azusa out
scored the Queen Bees 40-16 in the lane. Azusa's pressure also got to SAU,
as the Cougars converted their 15 steals into 27 points. The Cougars shot
51% for the game, including 59% in the second period.
SAU was led by Jennifer Goetz and Jody
Wulff, who had eleven and ten points, respectively. Goetz also finished
with 15 rebounds, while Wulff had a solid all around game with five
rebounds and four assists. Jena Zientek scored eight, while grabbing four
rebounds.
Azusa Pacific's Monica Somers led all
scorers with 18 points, as she connected on both of her three-point
attempts. Lindsey West chipped in with ten points, eight rebounds, and
three assists, while also swarming around the ball at all times, as she
collected a game-high four steals. All ten players that entered the game
got in the scoring column for the Cougars.
SAU will try to get back in the win column
next week, after dropping two straight games. The Queen Bees will take
part in the Saint Xavier Holiday Tournament December 27-29. They will face
the host team Saint Xavier on Tuesday at 7:00 in the first round of the
tournament.
