Box Score

DES MOINES, Iowa – St. Ambrose came into Wednesday's game at Grand View playing some of the best ball they've played all season, only allowing 44.6 points per game in their last five victories. For the first four minutes of the game, it looked as if that trend would continue, as SAU jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, thanks to six quick points by Jena Zientek. That lead quickly faded however, as SAU loses their first conference game of the season, 53-44.

After a couple mini-comebacks by Grand View, SAU still led by 10 with five minutes remaining in the half. Grand View then went on a 13-5 run to end the half and go into the locker room only down two. Grand View shot 60% from three-point range to stay in the game.

The Vikings picked up where they left off in the second half, as they scored the first basket to take the lead. Grand View shot 40% in the second half, compared to 24% for the Bees. The Vikings took the lead for good with 15 minutes left, and they were able to hold on to the victory, thanks to their free throw shooting. GVC was clutch at the line, going 11 for 13 in the half.

SAU was led by three players in double figures. Jody Wulff scored 12 points, while also collecting five rebounds. Zientek finished with 10, while pulling down five boards. Jennifer Goetz struggled to find her shot all night. Goetz finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, but shot just 3 of 19 from the field. SAU shot 28% for the game as a team.

The Vikings were led by sophomore guard/forward Tanna Slings who collected a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Jesi Barrett was a key to the win, as she added 17 points and six assists for Grand View, while going 7-8 from the free throw line.

St. Ambrose falls to 14-6 overall and 4-1 in the MCC, dropping them to second place in the conference behind Iowa Wesleyan, which is off to their best start in school history with a 5-0 conference mark. Grand View improves to 7-14 and 3-2 in conference, which ties them for third place with William Penn. SAU's next contest is Saturday, as they'll stay on the road and travel to Cedar Rapids to face Mount Mercy at 1:00. That game will be followed by the men's contest between the Bees and Mustangs.
