Queen Bees Win Third Straight

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- It only took four games into the 2005-06 season, but
the SAU women's basketball team has already matched their longest winning
streak from last year. The Queen Bees defeated Trinity International 75-62
Saturday night to win their third consecutive game.
The game was closely contested in the first
half, with the Queen Bees getting out to a 38-33 lead heading into
halftime. SAU held the lead despite being out shot in the half 56% to 45%.
SAU was cold in the first half, making one of their eight three-point
attempts, but things would turn around in the second period.
St. Ambrose (3-1) was able to take over the
game thanks to their relentless defense that caused the Trojans to turn
the ball over 23 times in the game. SAU recorded 15 steals, while only
turning the ball over 14 times. The Queen Bees also started knocking down
their shots in the second half, shooting 60% from behind the arc. St.
Ambrose also won the battle on the boards, grabbing 36 rebounds (21
offensive), compared to 27 total rebounds for Trinity International (3-1).
The Queen Bees were led by Jennifer Goetz,
who scored a game-high 22 points, while also grabbing six rebounds and
recording three assists. Casey Breitbach scored 12 in the game, while Jena
Zientek had one of her best games so far this season, scoring eleven
points and grabbing nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
Cathy Mangan also scored in double figures for SAU with ten points. Mangan
also stole the ball four times.
Trinity was led by Alisa Haman, who scored
15 on seven of eight shooting. Haman also recorded five rebounds. Latasha
Conner was the only other Trojan in double figures, scoring 12 in the
losing effort.
SAU will try to keep their streak in tact,
as they'll return home Friday against Trinity Christian. Tip-off is set
for 6:00 at Lee Lohman Arena.
