SAU Dominates Augustana
12/8/05
Box Score
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- It's been three years since the St. Ambrose women's
basketball defeated Augustana. Thursday night, they did just that, coming
away with an impressive 72-58 victory over the Vikings.
Augustana (3-3) started the game well, as Nancy Marcum scored the first
basket just 13 seconds into the game. That would be Augustana's only lead
of the game however. St. Ambrose (9-1) torched the nets in the first half,
shooting 64% from the field, while the Vikings struggled early, hitting on
just 29% of their shots. SAU took a commanding 37-21 lead into the locker
room, thanks to a 24-10 run to end the half.
In the second half, it was more of the same. Augustana's first basket came
three and a half minutes into the period and the Vikings also turned the
ball over five times in that span. That's all SAU needed to extend the
lead even further, going ahead by as much as 31 points, more than doubling
Augustana's point total at times. SAU finished the game shooting 54% from
the field.
Ali Rorah provided a huge spark off the bench for the Queen Bees, making
seven of her ten shots. Rorah finished with a career high 14 points, while
also collecting seven rebounds. Jennifer Goetz led all scorers with 21
points, to go along with eight boards. Jena Zientek and Casey Breitbach
scored eleven and ten points, respectively.
Augustana was led by Nancy Marcum, who finished with 18 points and eight
rebounds. Erin Daniels added ten points for the Vikings.
SAU has now won nine consecutive games, but they have their toughest test
awaiting them next week. They'll head out to California, where they'll
play two games in three days. They'll play the third ranked team in the
country, The Master's College, on December 17th in Santa Clarita,
California. The Queen Bees will then play 18th ranked Azusa Pacific in
Azusa, California.
