SAU Shoots Their Way to
Victory
12/6/05
Box Score
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- For the first time all season, the Queen Bees were able
to put together two good halves of basketball. SAU shot over 50% in both
halves, helping them to a 71-57 win over Culver-Stockton.
The lead went back and forth in the first half, until the Wildcats (2-7)
went ice cold from the field. SAU (8-1) was able to take a commanding
lead, going on a 19-2 run in the final 7:30. The Queen Bees led 36-20 at
the half, thanks, in part, to Culver-Stockton's 29% shooting in the first
half.
Both teams shot well in the second period, but it was too little, too late
for Culver-Stockton, who never got closer than 12 points the rest of the
way. SAU was able to get all 16 players in the game, while also resting
their starters for much of the half. The Queen Bees got 22 points from
their bench players. A big reason for their eighth win in a row was their
relentless style of play. SAU scored 14 second chance points, 12 of those
coming in the second half.
Jennifer Goetz shot lights out for the
Queen Bees, connecting on ten of her 14 shot attempts. Goetz was also 2 of
4 from three point range. She finished with 23 points and six assists.
Cathy Mangan scored eleven points for the Queen Bees, on five of six
shooting. Jena Zientek chipped in with nine points and six boards.
Culver-Stockton had just one player in
double figures, as Stephanie Kramer scored 14 points. Ashley Nagel and
Heidi Zander each finished with nine in the losing effort.
SAU doesn't have much time to savor this victory, as they'll look for
their ninth win in a row on Thursday, in a rivalry game against Augustana.
Game time is set for 7:30 at Lee Lohman Arena.
