Box Score
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The Queen Bees have been up and down as of late, losing
three of their last six games. The first of those losses came last month
at Grand View, which was SAU's first conference loss of the year.
Wednesday, the Queen Bees were able to extract some revenge on the Lady
Vikings, winning big, 64-43.
SAU used smothering defense and efficient offense to take a commanding
15-point lead at halftime. The Queen Bees shot 52 percent in the first
half, while holding Grand View to just 29 percent (7-24) shooting. The
Lady Vikings were able to stay close at the start of the first half,
trailing by three with seven and a half minutes remaining. That's when
SAU's offense exploded, as they scored 12 straight points and finished the
half on a 16-4 run.
The second half resulted in more of the same, with SAU never letting up.
Grand View never got closer than 12 points the rest of the way and they
trailed by as much as 23 points. Freshman Casey Breitbach hit back-to-back
three-pointers midway through the half that seemed to be the nail in the
coffin and sealed the game, putting SAU up by more than 20 points. The
Queen Bees dominated the glass all night, out rebounding the Lady Vikings
38-24.
Cathy Mangan led all scorers with 15 points, on six of nine shooting.
Jennifer Goetz finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, and four assists,
and also moved into eighth place on SAU's all-time scoring list (1,439),
passing Lisa Lombardo (1985-89). Ashlie Maher scored 11 points off the
bench, as she was three for three from behind the arc. Maher also had
three steals.
Grand View was led by Jesi Barrett's 13 points. Barrett also had four
rebounds, three assists, and four steals. The Lady Vikings committed 19
turnovers, while making just one of their eight shots from three-point
range.
SAU will wrap up their three-game home stand on Saturday when they'll play
host to Waldorf, whom the Queen Bees defeated earlier this season. Tip-off
is set for 1:00 and will be followed by the men's contest.
