SAU Continues To Roll

11/28/05
Box Score
CLINTON, Iowa -- St. Ambrose entered Sunday's game riding high, not experiencing a loss since their opening game. They continued that trend against Grinnell College, defeating the Pioneers 75-63 in day two of the River Cities Classic.

SAU (6-1) once again played their best ball in the first half, as they've done much of this season. The Queen Bees burnt up the nets out of the gates, shooting 54% from the floor in the first period, getting them out to as much as a 27-point lead. Grinnell (2-1) on the other hand was as cold as SAU was hot. The Pioneers connected on just 25% of their first half shots. Grinnell turned it on towards the end of the half however, going on a 12-3 run in the final three minutes, but the Queen Bees still led 45-27 at the half.

The second half was a bit more competitive, with each team playing evenly. Grinnell couldn't get over the hump, never cutting the lead to single digits in a game where St. Ambrose never trailed. SAU out shot the Pioneers once again in the second half, 41%-37%. One big positive for the Queen Bees was under the boards. SAU out rebounded Grinnell 38-28 in the game.

Jennifer Goetz was once again the leading scorer for St. Ambrose with 17, eleven of which came in the second half. Goetz also grabbed six rebounds. Cathy Mangan also scored in double figures with 13, while adding six rebounds. Jody Wulff finished with five points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Grinnell was led by Katy Bowen, who scored a game-high 21. Hannah Wolf added 14 points for the Pioneers, who suffered their first loss of the year.

SAU will go for win number seven in a row at noon on Saturday against St. Mary's (NE). That would be the Queen Bees longest winning streak since they won eleven straight in the middle of the 2003-04 season.
