the Win

Box Score
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Waldorf came into Saturday's game at Lee Lohman Arena
with upset on their minds. The Lady Warriors left just like 12 of 13 teams
have left Davenport this season, with a loss. The Queen Bees ran away with
a 75-49 victory, never truly being threatened all day.
SAU scored the first basket of the game on
a Jody Wulff lay-up, and never looked back, leading the entire game. The
Warriors got within one point on a couple different occasions, but could
never get over the hump thanks to an SAU defense that recorded 12 steals
and forced 19 turnovers. The Queen Bees shot 47 percent in the first half
to get out to a 14-point lead at halftime.
SAU held a double digit lead the rest of
the game, and their shooting only got better as the game went on. SAU shot
50 percent in the second half, while holding Waldorf to just 36 percent
shooting. The Queen Bees were also able to dominate the boards, which is
somewhere Waldorf usually comes out the winner. SAU out rebounded the Lady
Warriors 38-26, with 13 of those 38 boards coming on the offensive glass.
SAU didn't give Waldorf a chance to come back, as they made 13 of 16 free
throws in the second half. 13 players got in the scoring column for SAU in
what was a very balanced attack.
Jennifer Goetz led SAU with 14 points and
four rebounds, while Jill Sweeney scored 10 to go along with her three
assists. Junior Ashlie Maher had her second strong game in a row off the
bench, scoring 11 points for the second consecutive time. Maher was 2-of-2
from 3-point range. The Wyoming, Illinois native didn't miss a shot from
downtown all week, making all five long-range shots in her two games last
week.
Waldorf was led by Maria Stoner, who was
shut down in the first half, but had a strong second half to finish with
15 points and five rebounds. Kelly Houser scored 13 points, to go along
with her five steals. Cari Cimmiyotti chipped in with nine points for the
Lady Warriors.
SAU will now travel to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa
on Wednesday for a critical match-up against league leader Iowa Wesleyan.
With a win, the Lady Tigers will clinch the conference championship, but
an SAU win Wednesday and Saturday, coupled with an Iowa Wesleyan loss on
Saturday will leave the two teams tied for the conference title with tie
breakers to decide the number one seed in the MCC tournament. Wednesday's
game will begin at 5:30 and will be followed by the men's game against the
Tigers.
