Eagan Takes Over Queen Bee Program
5/5/05

DAVENPORT, Iowa- For Amy Eagan, it's been a lifelong dream to become a head basketball coach.  Eagan will now see that dream come to fruition, as she was named the head women's basketball coach at St. Ambrose University on Thursday.

"I'm extremely excited about the great opportunity to coach at
St. Ambrose and I'm looking forward to the future," Eagan said.

The SAU program is just as excited to have Eagan as she is to be here.

"We got the best possible candidate, who happens to be a great coach and an equally great person," SAU Athletic Director Ray Shovlain said.

Eagan comes to Davenport from Quincy University, where she had an influence on pretty much every aspect of the Lady Hawks' program.

In Eagan's four years at Quincy, she helped the team to three consecutive Division II Great Lakes Region championship games, as well as back-to-back Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles and a berth in the 2004 Elite Eight.  Quincy compiled a 96-32 record in that time.

"Being in those championship games has given me some big time game experience.  It's shown me what it takes to get to that point and the hard work that a team has to put in," Eagan said.

Eagan takes over a Queen Bee squad that finished 17-16 last season with a
7-7 mark and a fifth place finish in the Midwest Classic Conference, under Ted Eskildsen.  They bowed out in the first round of the MCC Tournament, with a loss to Grand View.

The 2005-06 version of the Queen Bees could take on a different look than recent years under the direction of Eagan.

"We're going to get up and down the floor and run an up tempo fast break style of play.  Our man to man defense will be our bread and butter," Eagan said.

Eagan will do her best to bring SAU back to national prominence, where they've reached the Final Four twice and the Elite Eight on four separate occasions, with the last time coming in 2000.

"I can't wait to get the workouts started with the girls and get my feet wet as a first year head coach.  I'm going to expect this team to work as hard as they can to be in the best shape possible and to become the best players they can possibly be," Eagan said.
