We are in the process of revamping all of our sports pages, watch for this sport to take on our new look before the start of the second semester. Queen Bees ink one of Illinois' best lady linksters Caiti Childers, a senior at St. Edward’s High School (Elgin, Ill.) has signed a letter of intent and will attend St. Ambrose beginning in the fall of 2007. wining conference last year and finishing 20th at nationals, the As
for recruiting, this year there are five new freshmen and two, possibly
three, will be on the starting six. “They
are very competitive which helps all the players work harder” says second
year head coach Mike Orfitelli about the new freshmen players. “Right now,
all the players are working hard to establish themselves.” The
players are off to a good start though in their first week with Nicole
Keeney averaging 78, followed by freshman McKenzie Hein at 83, and Emily
Dean at 84. In
their first tournament of the season, the Queen Bees finished in second
place, while Keeney and lone senior Emily Petruccelli finished tied for
third place after firing 77’s. The team was five strokes off the pace. Tori
Bown led the freshmen with an 83 and Kenzie Hein was right behind with an
85. “Overall,
in practice I've been playing pretty well, but there are still some things I
need to improve on” said freshman McKenzie when asked about her playing. Emily
Dean (Jr.) is confident about the team’s ability and progress since last
season. “I
think I have a lot of potential," Dean said. "I've been working
really hard this summer, and I plan to continue to work hard throughout the
season.” Winning
the Midwest Classic Conference and NAIA Region VII titles and receiving
another bid to the national tournament are three goals Ofitelli has set for
his team this year. As for right now, he feels they are right where they
should be. Prospective athletes are
