SAU WOMEN'S SOCCER |
Bees win back-to-back games for first time in '06DAVENPORT -- Yet another trip to a regional opponent saw the Bees travel to Chicago to take on the Illinois Institute of Technology squad. This evening game saw a great battle unfold with opportunities on both ends. The two teams adjusted their shape and style of play throughout the game, but it would be the Bees who would secure the win with a 3-1 advantage. The scoring started in just 9 seconds when senior Bridget Krajewski got in from an early play. This must be one of the quickest goals of the year… perhaps in all of college soccer this year!! But the home side would battle back and tie the game up when space would open on the left side of the box. The game would enter half time all timed up. But once again, the Bees came out strong and Kate Gardner made her starting role count by firing wide and low for her first goal of the year. The home side pushed numbers forward as the game really opened up, and both squads had shots hit the crossbar before Amanda Wilford secured the game with a screamer from 25-yards out. The Bees dropped back on defense and wrapped up the game, seeing their first back-to-back wins of the season. “It’s easy to say when you win, but it really was a great game to be involved with. Both squads battled hard and there where spells of great play and spells of a great battle," head coach Jon Mannall said. "It was nice to score that third as the game was in tilt with the home team pushing forward.”
