Bees can't hang on against ranked Robert MorrisMUSCATINE -- The weekend brought together some of the toughest teams in the region with Grand View, Robert Morris and St. Xavier represented. The Bees would open their tournament with NAIA No. 14 Robert Morris. SAU knew the squad was one with several exceptional players and a program with a very strong background. As the competition against top opposition continued the Bees came out in emphatic style and went up 2-0 early on with strikes from Amanda Wilford and the ever-dangerous Denise Absil. With the visitors on their heals, the Bees failed to capitalize, and Robert Morris mounted their comeback to tie the game at half. The game finished even on shots, but a sole penalty in the second half gave the visiting team the 3-2 win. “We had plenty of opportunities to finish this one today, credit goes to the opposition for mounting their come back due to some great play in the middle of the field,” head coach Jon Mannall said. “But we had the opportunities to take care of this game and it is frustrating not to take them against such a good opponent.” On the other game of the day the Vikings of Grand View fought back well against St. Xavier but the cross region team would take down the conference rivals 4-2 on the day. |
