Bees fall in openerSAN DIEGO, CA -- Despite a hat trick by Amanda Wilford, the Queen Bees dropped the season opener, 6-9, to San Diego Christian.San Diego Christian (1-0) jumped out to a 5-2 by halftime, but in the 68th minute, Shelby Van Gieson dropped a shot over the keeper to cut the deficit to one at 5-6. Over the next 15 minutes, SDC would tack on three more to pad their lead and take the win. In the loss, Kari Peterson also had a pair of goals. Doing most of the dirty work for Christian was Mary Willis and Mercedez Ray. They both scored four goals, and had a pair of assists. Neither SAU keeper could stop them. Erica Inendino lasted just 23 minutes and gave up four goals before Tootsie Maus subbed in to try and defend the net. She gave up five goals while saving seven. The Queen Bees will next take on Point Loma Nazarene before heading back to the Quad Cities. |
