Follow Alum Joe Demory on
Tour
Not
many collegiate golfers go from playing as an amateur
straight to the professional level after graduation. Yet
in the summer of 2005, St. Ambrose University graduate Joe Demory, one of the best golfers in SAU history, did just
that.
After participating in various golf
tournaments in '05, including the John Deere Classic,
the two-time All-American applied to compete in the
National Golf Association Hooters Pro Golf Tour, which plays
courses around the Orlando, Fla., area. His first year on
the winter tour began the first week of November 2005.
He begins
the 2006 campaign in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Halloween at the
LPGA International Golf Club, the first stop on the NGA/Hooters
Winter Tour.
After racking up honors and setting school
records throughout college, Demory decided to pursue his lifetime career
goal of playing golf professionally.
“At St. Ambrose I was
surrounded by good players and good competition; and I got better,"
Demory said. "I wasn’t sure I had the talent to be at the
level I wanted to be, but I just got better and better.”
In 2005, Demory developed Demory Golf
L.L.C., allowing him to
raise funds to support his golf career.
While Demory considers himself fortunate to
be able to follow his dream, he said he plans to continue to
take the NGA tour, “one day at a time, one shot a time.”
