Mark Doerrfeld - Men's Basketball

Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001

Mark R. Doerrfeld, from the class of 1980, is one of Saint Ambrose University's most outstanding basketball alum. Despite being injured for 2 seasons of his career, Doerrfeld amassed over 1,000 career points. During his senior year, Doerrfeld was named the team's Most Valuable Player along with other honors including the Best Offensive Player and Best Defensive Player Awards. During Doerrfeld's senior year, Coach Leo Kilfoy described him as a solid offensive ballplayer and a strong defensive player. "Doerrfeld's constant hustle and dedication have made us a good ball club to watch," added Coach Kilfoy.

During his sophomore season in 1977, Doerrfeld and teammate Ray Shovlain were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Spring Hill Invitational in Mobile Alabama. Doerrfeld tied for the scoring award with the tournament's MVP.

Before St. Ambrose, Doerrfeld was an All-State performer at Davenport West High and still holds the single-game record for rebounds with 21.

Mark has stayed close to his SAU home, residing in Davenport with his two children, Ashley and Brian. He has continued his basketball passion as an official in high school and junior high for the past twenty years.
