St. Ambrose Conference Players of the Week - 2010-11

May 9 - MCC release

Kayla Sanborn (women's outdoor field)
Sanborn was named the MCC Outdoor Championships Field Athlete of the Year after winning the triple jump and placing second in the long jump, high jump and heptathlon.


Apr. 25 - MCC release

Rachel Luehrs (women's outdoor field)
Luehrs won the heptathlon at the MCC Multi-Event Championships, setting a school record and hitting the NAIA "A" standard with 4,230 points.


Apr. 18 - MCC release

Kevin Randle (men's outdoor track)
Randle qualified for the NAIA championships with a time of 32:08.09 in the 10,000 meters at the Augustana (Ill.) Meet of Champions Saturday.


Apr. 11 - MCC release

John Darmody (men's outdoor track)
Darmody won the 800 meters with an NAIA A standard time of 1:53.29 at the Western Illinois Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational. He also was second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:45.79.

Matt Skahill (men's golf)
Skahill was third individually at the Augustana Invitational with a two-day score of five-over par, leading the Fighting Bees to a second-place team finish of 18 teams.


Apr. 4 - MCC release | MAMVIC release

John Darmody (men's outdoor track)
Darmody finished second in the 1500 meters at the Missouri Relays with a time of 3:52.26, hitting the NAIA A standard to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.

Dan Dowjotas (men's volleyball)
Dowjotas was named the NAIA Men's Volleyball Player of the Week after leading the Bees to the MAMVIC East Conference Tournament title.


Mar. 28 - MCC release

Rachel Luehrs (women's outdoor track)
Luehrs won the heptathlon at the Augustana Viking Olympics with a score of 3,863 points, meeting the A qualifying standard for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. She won six of the seven events.


Mar. 21 - MCC release

Martha Burd (women's outdoor field)
Burd won both the discus and shot put at the Augustana Early Spring Opener, with throws of 121-10 in the discus and 39-9.75 in the shot put.

Nick Heuermann (men's outdoor field)
Heuermann won the discus at the Augustana Early Spring Opener with a personal best mark of 146-5.

Tony Morrison (men's outdoor track)
Morrison had a personal best time of 15.15 in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing second in the event at the Augustana Early Spring Opener.

Abby Parsons (women's outdoor track)
Parsons won the 2,000-meter steeplechase at the Augustana Early Spring Opener with a school record time of 7:27.77.


Mar. 1 - MCC release

Ali Dolphin (women's basketball)
Dolphin averaged 20.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.8 steals and shot 59 percent from the floor over three games in leading the Queen Bees to the MCC Tournament title. She scored 21 points in the championship game against William Penn, including 18 in the second half.


Feb. 21 - MCC release

Ali Dolphin (women's basketball)
Dolphin averaged 19.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game as the Queen Bees won twice last week to wrap up the MCC regular season title. She also shot 56 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line over the two games.

Chris Dubree (men's indoor field)
Dubree won the shot put at a dual meet with Augustana with a school-record throw of 52-8.75, a mark that ranks among the top 10 in the NAIA this year.

Naomi Patrnchak (women's indoor field)
Patrnchak set a school record in the triple jump and hit the NAIA 'B' qualifying standard with a jump of 36-1.5 at the Augustana Dual.


Feb. 14 - MCC release

John Darmody (men's indoor track)
Darmody was named MCC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 600, 800, mile and 3000-meter runs at the MCC Indoor Championships.

Mandy Streu (women's indoor field)
Streu won her second straight MCC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year award after winning the shot put and placing third in the weight throw at the MCC Indoor Championships.


Feb. 7 - MCC release

Rachel Luehrs (women's indoor track)
Luehrs set a personal record with a time of 8.73 in the 55-meter hurdles at the Cornell Hilltop Invite, qualifying for the NAIA indoor championships. She also ran on the Queen Bees' 4x800 relay team which set a new school record of 9:47.26 and qualified for nationals.

Mandy Streu (women's indoor field)
Streu qualified for the NAIA indoor championships in the shot put and weight throw with her performances at the Cornell Hilltop Invitational. She won the shot put with a mark of 46-1.25, which is the top mark in the NAIA this year, and also was third in the weight throw with a best of 49-9.

Luke Wielgopolan (men's indoor field)
Wielgopolan won the weight throw at the Cornell Hilltop Invite with a top mark of 56-2 and qualified for the event at the NAIA indoor championships.


Jan. 31 - MCC release

Mike Kennedy (men's basketball)
Kennedy averaged 23.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last week as the Fighting Bees swept three games in MCC play. He also shot 48.9 percent from the field and 82.6 percent from the free throw line.

Rachel Luehrs (women's indoor field)
Luehrs set a school record in the pentathlon at the University of Chicago Duals, scoring 3,145 points. Her mark meets the NAIA 'A' standard and is the second-highest score in the NAIA this year.


Jan. 24 - MCC release

Danny Rufus (men's indoor field)
Rufus qualified for the NAIA indoor national championships in the weight throw with a personal best mark of 17.16 meters at the Cornell Quadrangular.


Jan. 17 - MCC release | NAIA release

Megan Manning (MCC and NAIA women's indoor field)
Manning set a school record and hit the NAIA 'A' standard with a mark of 15.54m (51-0) in the weight throw and also was third in the shot put with a mark of 12.31m (40-4.75) at the Knox Invitational.


Jan. 10 - MCC release

Mike Kennedy (men's basketball)
Kennedy averaged 20 points and nine rebounds and shot 53.2% from the floor over three SAU wins last week, including two wins in MCC play.

Ian VanAntwerp (men's indoor field)
VanAntwerp won the triple jump at the Purdue Invitational Triangular with a personal record mark of 45-9 (13.94 meters). He also was third in the long jump with a best of 20-8.5 (6.31m).


Nov. 29 - MCC release

Annie Smith (women's basketball)
Smith averaged 19.5 points and 10 rebounds over two SAU wins last week. She shot 46.2% from the field, 77.8% from the free throw line, and hit eight 3-pointers over two games, including five in a win over Illinois-Springfield.


Nov. 22 - MCC release

Ali Dolphin (women's basketball)
Dolphin averaged 20.5 points, nine rebounds and 5.5 steals over two games last week and shot 57.7% as the Queen Bees split two games.

Kevin Randle (men's cross country)
Randle was the highest finishing MCC runner at the NAIA National Championships, finishing 100th in a field of more than 300 runners with a time of 26:36 in the 8K.


Nov. 15 - MCC release

Ali Dolphin (women's basketball)
Dolphin averaged 13 points, 16 rebounds and 8.5 assists over two games last week and recorded a triple-double in a win over nationally-ranked Saint Xavier.

Kelsy Heiser (volleyball setter)
Heiser recorded 95 assists over two matches last week and also added 10 kills as the Bees won the MCC Tournament title and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

Mike Kennedy (men's basketball)
Kennedy averaged 22.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last week and shot 50.9% from the field as the Fighting Bees won three straight games, including a win over nationally-ranked McKendree.

Tori Matzen (volleyball hitter)
Matzen had 15 kills in an MCC Tournament semifinal win over Grand View and then added 11 kills in the final as the Queen Bees defeated William Penn for the conference tourney title.

Amy Royer (volleyball player)
Royer had 38 kills over two matches last week, including 21 kills as the Queen Bees defeated William Penn in the MCC Tournament final. She also added 13 digs in both matches.


Nov. 8 - MCC release

Ashley Dexter (women's soccer - offensive)
Dexter scored on a penalty kick and added an assist on a goal late as SAU defeated Clarke in the MCC Tournament.

Travis England (men's golf)
England finished in the top 10 at the Mobile (Ala.) Rams Fall Invitational, shooting even-par 72 on the second day to finish six-over for the tourney.

Lauren Gunawan (women's soccer - defensive)
Gunawan made five saves as the Queen Bees defeated Clarke 3-1 to advance to the MCC Tournament final.

Kevin Randle (men's cross country)
Randle was the individual champion at the MCC Cross Country Championships, finishing the 8K course in 26:45 and qualifying for the NAIA National Championships.

Amy Royer (volleyball - hitter)
Royer recorded 18 kills against both Viterbo and Ashford and set a Queen Bees' single-season record for kills. She also added 3.13 digs per set and helped SAU advance to the MCC Tournament semifinals.


Nov. 1 - MCC release | NAIA release

Ashley Dexter (MCC and NAIA women's soccer - offensive)
Dexter piled up four goals and six assists last week over three matches, including two goals and four assists in a win over Waldorf in the MCC Tournament quarterfinals.

Kelly Schroeder (women's soccer - defensive)
Schroeder led the Queen Bees' defense as it won three times last week, including two shutouts as well as a win over 12th-ranked McKendree.


Oct. 25 - MCC release | MSFA release

John Darmody (men's cross country)
Darmody finished first at the Fighting Bee Invite and led St. Ambrose to the team title by finishing the 8K in a personal best 27:24.

Kelsy Heiser (women's volleyball - setter)
Heiser averaged 13.50 assists per set (40.5 assists per match) and eight kills in 13 attack attempts as the Queen Bees defeated Iowa Wesleyan and Saint Xavier last week.

Barney O'Donnell (football - offensive)
O'Donnell threw for 222 yards and three scores and rushed for 179 yards and another touchdown to help St. Ambrose defeat Quincy 44-7.

Amy Royer (women's volleyball - player)
Royer averaged 5.83 kills per set and 17.5 kills per match over two matches last week, both SAU wins. She posted a .298 attack percentage and also averaged 6.50 digs per set.

Kendrick Tyson (men's soccer - offensive)
Tyson scored two goals late in the match to help the Bees come back from a 2-0 deficit and eventually defeat William Penn 3-2 last week.


Oct. 11 - MCC release

Brooke Ashcraft (women's cross country)
Ashcraft finished second at the Ashford Open with a time of 20:28 in the 5K, helping the Queen Bees to a second-place team finish.

Lauren Gunawan (women's soccer - defensive)
Gunawan recorded one solo shutout and combined on another as the Queen Bees won two more matches last week. She now has nine wins and five shutouts this year.

Kelsy Heiser (women's volleyball - setter)
Heiser averaged 11.30 assists per match in leading the Queen Bees to a 5-0 record last week. She posted at least 35 assists in all five matches with a high of 56 in a win over William Woods.

Kevin Randle (men's cross country)
Randle won the Ashford University Open Saturday and finished the 8K with a course record time of 27:45 to help the Bees win the team title.

Amy Royer (women's volleyball - player)
Royer set a St. Ambrose modern-day record with 32 kills in one match last week against William Woods, and led the Queen Bees to a 5-0 record on the week. She averaged 4.05 kills per set on the week and also added 3.75 digs per set, and was named to the all-tournament team at the Quad City Classic.


Oct. 4 - MCC release

Kelly Schroeder (women's soccer - defensive)
Schroeder helped the Queen Bees to two more wins last week, including MCC wins over Grand View and Clarke.


Sept. 20 - MCC release

Travis England (men's golf)
England lost a playoff for medalist honors but led the Fighting Bees to a victory in the UW-Green Bay Invitational. SAU defeated a field primarily consisting of NCAA Division I teams.


Sept. 6 - MCC release

John Darmody (men's cross country)
Darmody finished ninth of 137 runners and established a personal best in the 6K with a time of 20:17 at the Central College Dutch Invitational on Saturday.
