         Faith~Learning~Justice

Ambrosians for Peace & Justice - A number of opportunities to serve and work for justice are offered through this organization which is dedicated to volunteerism, peace and just social change based on prayer, study, action, and reflection. Service Trips - take place each year over Winter Break and Spring Break,     offering service to and learning from the marginalized in Appalachia, in the inner city of Chicago, or through an expanded international service program. For more information contact Campus Ministry at ministry@sau.edu.

Green Life -  Promotes awareness within the community through education and activism to protect and restore the environment. For more information, contact Fr. Bud Grant at x6419 or GrantRobert@sau.edu.

Amnesty International - A worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards.  For more information contact Katy Strzepek at

  Ambrosians for Life - A pro-life group which focuses on all life issues, but     
  especially abortion.  Through prayer, volunteering and education, the group hopes to 
  end abortion and bring healing, while working with other campus and area groups to
  promote life in all ways.  Advisor: Stella O'Rourke at x6083 or ministry@sau.edu.     

  Catholic Relief Services - International emergency relief and anti poverty  
  programs.  Lenten Rice Bowl collection and Fast Fest proceeds go toward their third
  world poverty-relief services.

  Service Learning - Offers students an opportunity to apply their academic 
  learning in a setting of community service. Students complete 25 hours of service, 
  participate in regular reflection periods, complete a final project and earn a credit.
  Some of the opportunities include: 
         -  After school programs in various grade schools as well as Big Brothers/Big    
            Sisters, United Neighbors and Garden Growers. 
         -  Elderly assistance programs with Kahl Home and CASI. Environmental 
            initiatives with Quad City Botanical Garden, River Action, Humane Society
            and VanderVeer Park.
         -  Handicapped and hospitalized care with Children's Therapy of the Quad 
            Cities, Genesis and Trinity Medical Centers.
         -  In-school mentoring in local parochial and public grade schools; Poverty and  
            Justice outreach through John Lewis Coffee Shop, Habitat for Humanity,  
            Rebuilding Together, Head Start Preschools,  and Quad City Interfaith.
