About Kim

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with my BA in Psychology.  After working as a Peer Advisor in the Residence Halls and Peer Advisor for Academic Advising, I decided to stay at UNI to work on my MA in Postsecondary Education:  Student Affairs.  While working on my master's degree I had the opportunity to work in Admissions, Campus Ministry, the Career Center, the Education Department as an Editorial Assistant, and Academic Advising.  I really enjoyed working in the Career Center and decided that is where I wanted to obtain a full-time position.  When I moved to the Quad Cities with my husband, there were not any jobs in student affairs open, so I found a job at Handicapped Development Center working as a Casemanager.  I loved working with mentally and physically handicapped individuals, but was very eager to obtain a position at a university.  I was extremely lucky to find a position a year later at SAU in the Career Center.  I immediately felt welcome at the university and was grateful to work at such a great place.

Outside of the Career Center, I enjoy spending time with my one year old daughter, cooking, and reading.  I don't have time for much else, because I am usually chasing a little one around.

What I do at the Career Center:

I do a variety of things at the Career Center.  I help students who are undecided in their major by administering several inventories and discussing their interests, values, and skills.  I help students with the graduate school admissions process.  In addition, I coach students on resume and cover letter writing.  I assist with mock interviews as needed.  I also have the opportunity to help maintain our website and assist with marketing.  Finally, I assist with the special events such as the Career Fairs.

What I like about working at the Career Center:

Everything.  I love my co-workers, the other employees who work at the university, as well as the students who work in the Career Center and those that I work with on a daily basis.  I can't imagine a better place to work.  I am so lucky to have been here for three years.
