RESUME CHECKLIST

 The resume is often thought of as a tool that is used to get a job.  Actually, it serves as a letter of introduction prior to the interview where most of the information about a candidate is obtained.  Your challenge is to prepare a resume for yourself that will get you to the interview.

  • One inch of “white space” margin around text 
     

  • Quickly scannable for important highlights
     

  • Appropriate, readable font style
     

  •  High quality printing

  • High quality paper
     

  • One page or, at the most, 2 pages of RELEVANT information
     

  • Dates are available but not prominent (following the information) Information is focused on skills using statements that begin with action verbs
     

  • Data in each section is presented in reverse chronological order with most recent event first
     

  • Errorless document with no grammatical, spelling or mixed tense errors
     

  •  Written in formal style with no contractions or abbreviations or acronyms
     

  •  Logical headings organized for clarity and effectiveness
     

  • Bullets are used to designate the same kind of information consistently
     

  • Correct name, address, phone number and e-mail
     

  •  If sent electronically, you will be guaranteed of the best results if you remove italics, underlining, bold face, decorative lines and shading. Then, left justify the entire document adding spaces where needed for clarification.
