Philosophy
Our
curriculum supports children’s independence, empathy for
others and creativity using developmentally appropriate
practices. In-depth
explorations of topics based on children’s interests
provide the context for them to have a deeper understanding
of themselves and their world.
We facilitate learning experiences that allow
children to actively explore using all their senses,
manipulate real objects, build on their knowledge base and
work cooperatively with adults and other children.
We
are dedicated to building strong relationships by
collaborating with families to support the development of
children’s unique personalities, abilities and needs.
By practicing unconditional positive regard and a
home-like classroom setting, we strive to be an extension of
each child’s home. To
help meet individual family needs, we provide support
services, referrals and information.
Our
Program Goals Encourage:
-
Children to increase competency in social, cognitive, language and motor
skills.
-
Children to develop and strengthen dispositions for successful learning,
for example: staying
on task, risk taking, persevering, being curious.
-
Children to develop self-confidence and independence by participating in
a child-lead environment.
-
Children to demonstrate respect, empathy, and compassion for others.
-
Parents to collaborate with others to develop a deeper understanding of
child development.
-
Parents to accept each child’s individual growth.
-
Parents to advocate for their child’s learning.
-
SAU students to implement new knowledge learned from education course
work and SAUCC staff into the early childhood
environment.
-
SAU students to build competency in teaching abilities and go forth
to advocate for best practice in the community.
