  For instructors:     Creating a Forum
  1. In the Course Tools section of the Control Panel, click Discussion Board.
  2. Click the Add Forum button.
  3. Enter a title for the forum in the Title box.
  4. Enter text for the forum in the Description box.
  5. Select options under Forum Settings.

  1. Optional: In the Forum User Settings section, select a user and do one of the following:
    • To grant the user forum moderator privileges, click the Moderate button.
    • To revoke user forum administrator privileges, click the Normal button.
    • To block the user from posting messages on the forum, click the Block button.
    • To unblock the user from posting messages on the forum, click the Unblock button.
  2. Click the Submit button.

Note: To remove a forum, click the Remove button next to the forum you want to remove. Click the OK button to confirm deletion.

Creating a Discussion Thread

  1. In Discussion Board, click the forum name to access the forum.
  2. Click the Add New Thread button.
  3. Enter a subject in the Subject box.
  4. Enter thread text in the Message box.
  5. Check or clear the Post message as Anonymous box.
  6. Optional: To add an attachment, click the Browse button, locate and select the file you want to add, and click the Open button.
  7. Click the Submit button.

Note: Click on the Show Options tab in the upper-right corner of the Discussion Board to display the Discussion Board Options Menu.

Reading and Replying to a Thread

  1. In Discussion Board, click the forum name to access the forum.
  2. Click the thread name to read the thread.
  3. Click the Reply button to reply to the thread.
  4. Enter reply text in the Message box.
  5. Click the Submit button.

Note: Click Expand All or Collapse All in the upper-right corner to hide or display all replies to a thread.

Creating a Discussion Board Archive

Use the archive feature to clean up a Discussion Board that has too many threads.
  1. In Discussion Board, click the forum name to access the forum.
  2. Click Archives.
  3. Click the Add Archive. button.
  4. Enter a title for the archive in the Archive Title box.
  5. Enter a description of the archive in the Description box.
  6. Optional: Select whether you want to make the archive available to students.
  7. Click the Submit button.
  8. Click the Modify button next to the archive you created.
  9. In the Select threads in forum to move to archive section, select the threads you want to archive.
  10. Click the Submit button and click the OK button.
