Workshop Descriptions

Blackboard QuickStart (for beginners)                                                   Top

Blackboard is extremely easy to use and most instructors are quickly able to start building courses or place content online.  This is a hands-on workshop that introduces you to the features of Blackboard, shows you how to add content to your course and gives you a forum to ask questions. You'll add content and graphics to a practice site, learn about the online gradebook and communication features such as the Discussion Board and practice customizing the look of your course. Although Blackboard is a relatively easy, point and click program, there are some basic procedures that all instructors should know. Even if you're a savvy computer user, this workshop will show you things that will save you time in the long run.

Blackboard Online Gradebook and Assessments                                   Top

This workshop explores Blackboard's Online Gradebook and Assessment Manager tools.  The course is designed for instructors, teaching assistants, and support staff who have a working knowledge of Blackboard but want to learn more about the strengths and limitations of these tools. We will focus on drafting questions and methods of presenting questions to students, using enhanced feedback features and test settings, creating a question "pool" and even using images in question creation.  Come prepared with some test/quiz questions and images.

Using the Assignment Tool in Blackboard                                             Top

This allows instructors to create assignment items through which students can submit their response to the assignment. Instructors can track the students' assignments and download the submissions from an entire class simultaneously through the Gradebook. They can grade the assignments and provide feedback for each student which may be viewed online when checking their grades.

Blackboard Virtual Classroom & Articulate Open House                       Top

The Collaboration feature, also referred to as Virtual Classroom, allows students and instructors to hold real-time virtual classroom sessions online. Students can also use this feature to conduct online group meetings. Professors can use it for virtual office hours.

Articulate Presenter lets non-technical users create e-learning courses by adding narration and interactivity to a standard PowerPoint file. At the press of the button, your presentation is transformed into a compelling Flash-based course.

Basic Image Scanning                                                                           Top

We will scan images and discuss the basics of creating and editing image files.  Using the CIDT scanners, we will scan, create PDF's, upload the images to Blackboard, attach the files in Outlook ---  or whatever you want to do with them.  Please bring a phot0, picture or item to scan.

Barracuda Spam Filtering                                                                      Top

Information Technology has implemented a Barracuda Spam Firewall to reduce unsolicited e-mail. The Barracuda screens all incoming email checking it for viruses, worms, and spam before it even gets to your inbox.

The Barracuda Spam Firewall is extremely efficient in eliminating a high percentage of spam, however no filter is 100% accurate. Messages determined to be spam are placed in a quarantine area so you can access them if you need to determine if they are legitimate email messages.  You are in complete control over what gets blocked, filtered or delivered.
