The ability to personalize her degree program to fit her schedule and academic needs was a big reason why a busy self-starter such as Amy Langeneckert chose the St. Ambrose ACCEL Program to complete her bachelor’s degree. So it may surprise you to learn that Amy is actually the third of her sisters to pursue her degree at ACCEL.
She does give credit to her husband, Robert, who became the first in the family to earn his bachelor’s degree through the ACCEL Program in 2006. He urged Amy and her sisters to take advantage of the convenient scheduling and delivery that ACCEL provides working adults.
So Amy and her sister Britt both enrolled in ACCEL in 2007, joining their eldest sister, Melissa, who is on target to complete her bachelor’s of science in nursing degree through ACCEL in 2009.
Like many ACCEL students who must balance work and family with their education, Amy is taking classes toward her bachelor’s in business administration while also managing public relations at Dahl Ford in Davenport. Additionally, she keeps busy with her 17-year-old niece, who lives with her and Robert.
“Your life doesn’t stop so you can go to school,” Amy says. “You have to keep going no matter what.”
Being able to set her own pace is what she appreciates most about the ACCEL Program. Even she would describe herself as “driven,” so taking classes at an accelerated pace is perfect for her.
“The more I can commit myself to the program, the better,” Amy says. “It keeps me motivated.”
An added benefit, Amy says, is that she’s already using the knowledge she’s gained in her classes in her work at Dahl.
Great motivation, indeed. But ask Amy her biggest impetus besides earning her degree through ACCEL, and she’ll laugh.
“Beating both my sisters to the graduation stage.”
