Professor Waylyn McCulloh is the Director of the Master of Criminal Justice Program here at St. Ambrose University.  He attended Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, received his B.A. at the University of Iowa with a major in Political Science, his M.A. at the University of Iowa with a major in Criminal Justice, and has since completed additional hours beyond the M.A.  Professor McCulloh’s major interests are in criminal justice crisis intervention, stress management, and wellness.  He has developed stress management programs in two agencies and has conducted numerous crises intervention workshops for various agencies over the past ten years.  The primary courses Professor McCulloh teachers here at St. Ambrose University included Offender Treatment: Methods and Theories, Probation, Parole, and Community Corrections, Correctional Counseling, and Stress and Crisis Management.

Dr. Sandra A. Quinn began teaching at SAU in the fall of 2003.  She has a B.A. in Communications from Columbia College Chicago, an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. in Justice Studies, also from Arizona State University.  Quinn’s dissertation on gender-based power differentials in the classic period of the American Film Noir received an award for Outstanding Dissertation from ASU in 2000, and is presently under revision for the University of Texas Press.  Her other research interests include the institutionalization of the “insane” in the 20th century, British film and social realism, critical legal studies, theories of justice, and contemporary critical theory.  Her review of 90 Miles, a documentary about children in the Mariel Boatlift, appeared in Chasqui.  Dr. Quinn teaches Seminar in Criminal Justice, Criminological Theory, Introduction to Law Enforcement, The Serial Killer and Society, Juvenile Justice, Race, Class and Criminal Justice, Crime Policy Analysis, and Contemporary Corrections.

Dr. Chris Barnum began teaching at SAU in the fall of 2005. He received a B. A.,  and M. A. in Sociology from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Sociology with a major in Social Psychology from the University of Iowa. In addition to teaching at SAU, he is employed as a full time police officer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Dr. Barnum has worked at the C. R. P. D. since 1983. His research interests include the social psychology of police work, the effects of status, power and group membership on interaction, juvenile justice, security strategies and statistical performance evaluation methods for police. He has presented and published several articles detailing the effects of status and group membership on interaction. Dr. Barnum teaches Juvenile Justice, Introduction to Criminal Justice, White Collar and Organized Crime, Crime Prevention Strategies and Research Methods.
