Research over the last
quarter century has shown that leadership and management
theories and practices are important variables in
organizational success, but are also strongly related to
the cultures in which they are grounded. This course will
explore how leadership and management are related to the
concept of culture in general, i.e. across multiple
cultures. Then we will examine how concepts and theories
of organizational leadership are conceived and practiced
in three major geographic/ cultural regions of the world:
the United States and Canada; Europe (basically the
expanded European Union); and East Asia (China, Japan and
South Korea). Of necessity we will utilize both
scholarly research/publications and the more thoughtful
"general media" writings on the topic.
