Karl Hickerson graduated from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin with a B.A. in Psychology in 1970. He completed an M.S. in Social Psychology in 1972 and a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in 1976 at Washington State University.

Following a three-year tour of duty as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, Karl joined Deere & Company in 1976 as a management training instructor. From 1978-1984 he held positions in industrial engineering, corporate recruiting and compensation; served as the John Deere Insurance Division's first HR Manager, and later as Vice President, Administration and HR.  He joined the John Deere Health in 1993 as Director, John Deere Health Benefit Services, served as Director, Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, and completed his 26-year business career as Vice President, Customer Service for the Health Division.

Karl joined the St. Ambrose faculty full time in August 2002 and has also taught a variety of marketing courses for the SAU undergraduate and MBA programs. In the DBA program, he teaches Organizational Behavior, Human Resources and Special Topics in the areas of Leadership Careers and Organizational Change.
