Goals: At the completion of this course, a student will be able to:

1.  Identify the intermediate and long-term needs of individuals with disabilities;  

2.  Describe the impact of the cognitive and behavioral characteristics of disabled individuals on the transition process;

3.  Identify and describe the legislative mandates impacting transition process at the secondary and postsecondary levels;         

4.  Describe and apply career development theories to working with individuals who have disabilities;

5.  To develop and conduct an informal career assessment of an individual with disabilities;

6.  Prepare a job analysis or analysis of a course for accommodations

7.  Identify strategies and accommodations for individuals with disabilities in educational, training and/or employment settings;

8. Apply information from the professional research to the transition process;
9.  Identify and describe resources that can assist an individual who has a disability with living, employment, education, independent living, or personal needs;
10. Assess and/or develop a program model for the delivery of career and transitional services to individuals with disabilities at the secondary and/ or postsecondary levels; and
11.  Identify and describe the current and future issues associated with preparing individuals with disabilities to transition to the “community.”
