Licensure Information

Iowa

Forms for Application for Licensure or Renewal may be downloaded from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners' web site.

Questions regarding Iowa licensure should be directed to: Dr. Marcia Less 563-333-6124  /  LessMarciaL@sau.edu

Illinois

The St. Ambrose Education Department works closely with the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education to assist those who seek employment in Illinois.  Each semester, a representative from the Regional Office visits the
St. Ambrose campus to explain the necessary steps.  A St. Ambrose graduate must verify that he or she has:  1) completed the St. Ambrose Teacher Education Program,  2) received a University degree, and  3) obtained an Iowa teaching license.  In addition, unlike Iowa, Illinois requires that all applicants successfully pass three state examinations dealing with basic skills, the applicant's major area, and teaching ability.

Iowa and Illinois requirements change periodically and additional course work may become necessary to obtain an Illinois certificate or endorsement.

Individuals interested in teaching in Illinois should visit the Illinois Board of Education web site for Certification & Professional Preparation. Questions regarding Illinois certification or required tests may also be directed to:  Mr. John Flaherty of the Regional Office of Education, 309-736-1111 / jfahert@riroe.k12.il.us
