Once, by Greg Bouljon, 2003

Once she ran with hair flying in curls.

Now her bathroom is filled with haircare products.

Once she wore mismatched clothes that stood out

Now she wears clothes that help her to fit in.

Once we introduced her to her friends.

Now she introduces her friends to us.

Once she got up early for biscuits and gravy

Now she sleeps until lunch,

Once she went out to the backyard or the park

Now she drives herself everywhere.

Once the word, "Dad" was just once syllable

Now it can be many depending on the moment.

Once she faced growing up with us.

Now she faces college and her future with independence.

Once it seemed like this time was so far away.

Now it is here

and it is good... I think... I'm sure.
