About the Eastern Iowa Writing Project
In 2002, the National Writing Project announced the addition of the Eastern Iowa Writing Project at St. Ambrose University to its nationwide network of more than 185 sites in 46 states. The first Summer Institute was held at St. Ambrose during the summer of 2002 following a site visit by National Writing Project staff and careful review of the St. Ambrose University application. The Eastern Iowa Writing Project is the first of its kind in Iowa. It has been developed in collaboration with the Iowa Writing Project that has served teachers statewide for the past twenty-six years. Several years ago the Iowa Writing Project became affiliated with NWP but maintained its own identity. The St. Ambrose site has the distinction of being the first Iowa site approved by the regular NWP grant process.
