Exhibit 'Images of Iowa' Opens in Morrissey Gallery Sept. 15, 2003 "Images of Iowa: Photographs of the State’s Natural Resources" will be on exhibit in the Morrissey Gallery of the Galvin Center from Sept. 19—Oct. 12, 2003. An opening reception will be held on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Galvin Center lobby, prior to the Sarah Vowell performance. Nineteen artists, commissioned by Iowa State University’s Brunnier Museum, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Iowa Arts Council, spent one year exploring Iowa’s state parks, wildlife preserves and other natural areas while emphasizing conservation, preservation, land management and recreation. "We wanted photographers who would shoot documentary-style as well as push the envelope in manipulating their images," said Renee Senter, exhibition curator. "We really wanted to run the gamut on the types of images we would get for the exhibition." The photographs highlight only a fraction of state lands managed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, but they examine their aesthetic, historical and scientific significance. The exhibition is organized under the direction of Lynette Pohlman, director of University Museums at Iowa State University.
