St. Ambrose Music Department Hosts Spring Concerts April 19, 2004 St. Ambrose University will be
hosting several concerts this spring that will feature soloists performing
various selections from classical to modern music. The concerts, which are
free and open to the public, will be held in Allaert Auditorium in the
Galvin Fine Arts Center on the northwest section of campus. The
St. Ambrose Symphonic Band will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday,
April 30, that will feature Jeff Peterson on the alto saxophone performing
John Williams’ soundtrack to “Catch Me If You Can.” Other selections
will include Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Flourish for Wind Band,” and
Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in E-flat.” The
St. Ambrose Community Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert at 7:30
p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, with featured soloist Deborah Sanborne performing
Georg Frederick Handel’s Organ Concerto in B-flat. Also featured will be
Jerry Miller and Tami Byrum-Mahl performing Aaron Copland’s “Quiet
City.” Other works will be “Norwegian Dances” by Edvard Grieg and
“Soirées Musicales” by Benjamin Britten. The
Quad-City Area Youth Wind Symphony
will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 10, featuring guest
conductor Tara Daurer, the band director at Assumption High School. The
repertoire will include “Little Night and Day Music” by Samuel Adler,
“Greek Folk Song Suite” and “Lagan Love.” The
Quad-City Wind Ensemble will perform a concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May
16, featuring member Lilly Arbisser performing George Gershwin’s
“Rhapsody in Blue.” Other works include the Dvorak Serenade in D minor
and selections by Cormac Return to Galvin Home |
